Kieren Jack says he is hopefully of being fit for this Saturday’s hit-out with the Gold Coast Suns despite suffering a corked shin in Friday night’s NAB Cup clash with Essendon.

The exciting midfielder was subbed out in the second quarter against the Bombers after tangling with Paddy Ryder.

Jack said although his injury appeared serious at the time, it turned out to be less concerning than first thought.

“I just copped a little bit of a knock from Paddy Ryder’s knee which sort of went through my shin, so I came off the ground and had a little bit of a dent in my shin, which didn’t look good to start with,” Jack told SwansTV.

“Basically, it was a pretty bad cork, so I had to stop the bleeding pretty quickly and put the ice on it and put the cue in the rack.

“The good thing is it has pulled up really well and I’ll probably play this week … so I couldn’t be happier.”

Jack completed training this afternoon and said he is confident of lining up for the Swans at Blacktown this weekend.

“The swelling has gone down a lot, so it hasn’t set me back much at all,” he said

“I’ve still got to talk to John (Longmire) … and see what his thoughts are, but I am hoping to play this week to get another full game in before round one the following week.”

Jack said the injury has not affected his preparations for the Swans round one clash with GWS on March 24.

“The body before the weekend was feeling really good. I’m feeling fit and healthy and ready to get into it.

“I’ve had a big pre-season and have done a lot of sessions - basically every session the club has given me, so I’m looking forward to round one.”
