Gary Rohan has his sights firmly focused on recovery following his horrific leg injury suffered in round four.
The 20-year-old, who has been ruled out for the season after the compound fracture to his right tibia, is remaining positive about his future and has already set goals for his return.
“My goal is to start running at the start of the pre-season in October,” Rohan told SwansTV.
“I didn’t think it would be that soon, but the doctors are confident.
“I’ll get in that gym and start pumping some weights.
“You always have to think of the positives, so I’ll come back as big as Bradshaw!”
Rohan returned to the club late last week following an extended hospital stay, and said he was thrilled to be back amongst the boys and out of a hospital bed.
“I’m feeling a lot better now that I’m out of hospital instead of seeing those four walls,” he said.
“I came into the club to watch the boys train, which was pretty good and I’m just glad to be out of hospital and out and about.”
Rohan has a long road to recovery ahead, including eight weeks on crutches before he is able to put any weight on the injured leg.
The young Swan said he plans to return to his hometown of Cobden before coming back to the club mid-year.
“They’ve told me that I have just got to keep (the leg) up and keep it elevated, and Monday week I’ll get the stiches out,” he said.
“I’ll then get the plaster off and I’ll go into a moonboot, so it will be more flexible.
“Then I’ll be able to fly home back to Cobden for a month or so, and then I’ll come up and start rehab.”
Following an outpouring of support for the young player in the days after his injury, Rohan said he wanted to thank the club, the players, and Swans’ fans for their support.
“It was very good to have the support and I’ve still got the mail coming in at the Swans,” he said.
“I even had a fair few (of the players visit). They had a Thursday day off and it was like a zoo with the way they all came in.”
“I’d like to thank everyone. I’m most appreciative, and it’s been good.”
