Co-captain Jarrad McVeigh says his side will be fresh and ready for Thursday night’s big match against Geelong at the SCG.

After going into last weekend’s bye on the back of five straight wins, McVeigh told 1116SEN’s Morning Glory program that he was keen to avoid a repeat of last season where the Swans went to the bye in red-hot form only to be defeated by Port Adelaide upon their return.

“Sometimes you just want to keep on going when the ball’s rolling really well,” McVeigh said this morning.

“We had the same thing last year where we had two really good games against Collingwood and Adelaide and then had the bye, so we’ve spoken about that and really looking to put our best foot forward.

“We’re feeling refreshed; a few of the boys were a bit sore, so we’ve gotten over those and looking forward to really coming out and playing a real hard match.”

Fellow Swans midfielder and club leader, Josh Kennedy, said facing Geelong in a stand-alone Thursday night fixture would be a thorough test for the club.

“(Geelong have) been the best and most consistent side over the last probably ten years,” Kennedy told Sky Sports Radio’s Big Sports Breakfast this morning.

“They always produce in big games and this will be a big game.

“Hopefully (it’s) a sell-out - I know it’s pretty hard for the players to get tickets now, so everyone wants to come along.

“It’s going to be huge and we expect a huge contest from them and we’re going to have to bring our best.”
