QBE Sydney Swans Academy young gun Isaac Heeney says he feels confident about the NSW/ACT Rams chances in this weekend’s AFL Under-18 Championship clash with the Northern Territory.

The match, which will be played at Blacktown International Sportspark this Saturday from 12:50pm, will be the Rams’ first game in this year’s Championships.

Speaking on the AFL Website’s Road to the Draft podcast, Heeney said he felt his team were a strong chance of posting a win this weekend.

“It’s looking really good,” Heeney said.

“We’re a pretty strong team at the moment and hopefully we can get on the track this week and get some good training in and just bond together really nicely and show what we’ve got against the Northern Territory.”

Heeney, who has been a standout player for the Rams’ TAC Cup side this season, will be one of eight Swans Academy players to represent their state in this weekend’s match.

While the talented midfielder has been the most consistent performer this year for the Rams, Heeney said there were a number of Swans Academy players who he expected would make their mark in this year’s Championships.

“There will be one big fella to look out for in big Abe Davis,” he said.

“He’ll be up forward but can cruise down back as well.

“He can take big marks and can kick a bag of goals like he did last weekend, where he kicked five (in the TAC Cup win over Calder Cannons).

“Another one is Jordan Foote running through the middle.

“He’s just got elite endurance and he doesn’t stop going all day.”

Another player Heeney highlighted was bottom-age midfielder Callum Mills, who will also line up for NSW/ACT this weekend.

Despite being ineligible for the 2014 AFL Draft, Heeney said the 17-year-old was a leader in the making.

“(Mills) is another one to really watch out for,” he said.

“He’s extremely dangerous and uses the ball really well.

“He’s a good leader as well coming through, and he’s got a fair bit of confidence at the moment and he’s been playing some very good footy.”

It will be a double-header in Blacktown this weekend, with the Rams’ clash with the Northern Territory set to be followed by a practice match between the Swans reserves and UWS – currently the top two sides on the NEAFL table.

A number of players who narrowly missed out on selection for the under-18 side will line up as top-up players for the Swans reserves including: Joel Bottin-Noonan, Michael Dickson, Harry Dobson, Vahir Roser, Nick Foster, Jack Campbell, Oli Wetzler, Tom McCaffrey and Oscar Osborne.
