Roberts-Thomson wary of Roos’ run
Swans utility Lewis Roberts-Thomson is preparing to face an exciting North Melbourne side on Sunday at the SCG
Roberts-Thomson said he was impressed with North Melbourne’s ability to fight back and grasp a late win over Port Adelaide at Etihad Stadium last weekend.
“I think this year they’re a pretty exciting side,” Roberts-Thomson told media on Friday.
“You look at the weekend’s game against Port and the way they were able to fight back and to win that game was a really good team performance.”
After watching the Kangaroos’ win last week and reviewing their form this season, Roberts-Thomson said North Melbourne’s running game was one of their strengths.
The versatile Swan, who booted a goal in his return to the side last weekend, added that the Kangaroos’ consistency across all areas of the field was another one of their assets this season.
“North’s fitness is going to be very, very good and that’s a challenge for us,” he said.
“They’ve got a number of just fantastic players like (Brent) Harvey, (Daniel) Wells, (Nick) Dal Santo and the list goes on.
“They’ve also got (Drew) Petrie who can kick a number of goals.
“Across the board their forwards, mids and defenders, they all played pretty well (last week) at the stages where the game was there to be won.
“For us it’s going to be a really, really big team challenge.”
This weekend’s game will be the Swans first match at the SCG for 2014, which Roberts-Thomson said would be a major boost for the team.
“To play at the SCG is going to be really good,” he said.
“Hopefully we can get a big crowd in and really get the atmosphere going.
“North always bring a pretty tough game, so the game will be nice and fast.”
After being sidelines for the majority of the 2013 season with an ongoing knee injury, Roberts-Thomson said he was thrilled to be back playing and that he was feeling fitter than ever.
“The body is feeling a lot better and the knee is almost 100 per cent,” he said.
“Now I’m able to get a full load into it and am doing two training sessions a week, plus a game.
“Looking forward, it’s something that will hopefully allow me to play a number of more years in the AFL.”
