McVeigh impressed by Franklin's improved form
Sydney Swans co-captain Jarrad McVeigh says he was impressed with the improved form of Lance Franklin
Beaten in their first two games, Sydney kicked 12 of the last 13 goals against Adelaide to inflict a 63-point drubbing on the still-winless Crows in Adelaide on Saturday.
Franklin kicked four goals, tallied 20 touches, six inside-50s and three goal assists in easily his most complete performance for the Swans.
He has now kicked seven goals in three games, making him Sydney’s leader in that department.
Franklin thrived at Adelaide Oval, where the Swans won despite their three other main key forwards Sam Reid, Adam Goodes and Kurt Tippett being out injured.
‘‘He [Franklin] played really well on the weekend,’’ McVeigh said. ‘‘It was good to see him up and about and getting into some form.’’
McVeigh was one recipient of a pinpoint Franklin kick that led to a goal for him and stressed the all-round value of the big forward.
‘‘He’s so athletic and can move around,’’ McVeigh said. ‘‘He’s got great speed and great endurance and then he can go sit in the goal square if he wants.
‘‘Obviously he’s a superstar of the game and played really well yesterday and his pressure was also really good.’’
McVeigh was reported in the first quarter for rough conduct after collecting Adelaide’s Matthew Jaensch high in the first quarter.
Asked if he thought he had anything to worry about, McVeigh said: ‘‘I hope not, I’ve only seen it briefly.’’
Sydney play their first SCG game of the season next Sunday when they host North Melbourne.
