The Sydney Swans’ twin towers will be on show this weekend when Sam Reid joins Kurt Tippett in the forward line for this Sunday afternoon’s match against Melbourne at the MCG.

After missing four matches with a quad injury, Reid said he can’t wait to finally take to the field alongside the 202cm key forward, who will play his third game for the Swans this weekend.

“(Tippett) has played a few really good games and has provided an option for the guys up the field, so I’m looking forward to coming in and playing alongside him,” Reid told SwansTV.

“It means I get to play a bit more up the ground and run around a bit, and we’ll take some heat off each other which will be good.”

After working closely together throughout the pre-season, the pair has recently re-joined forces and has worked together both at training and through the match review process leading into Sunday’s game.

Reid said he felt confident that he and Tippett could find the synergy to complement each other on field.

“Over the last week we have definitely worked very closely together trying to get a feel for each other and the way we move,” he said.

“We’ve got a fair idea, so I’m just looking forward to putting it into practice on the weekend.”

After being subbed out of the Swans’ round nine win over Collingwood at the MCG, Reid has endured five weeks on the sidelines and said he was more than ready to make his return this week.

“It’s definitely been a while coming and it’s been a frustrating few weeks having to watch the boys, but I’m really happy to be back,” he said.

“I got through training really well and had a bit of a lighter session earlier in the week but got through that fine and felt really good the next day so I stepped it up and did the full main training session and got through that fine.

“I’m feeling good and ready to go.”

Reid and ruckman Shane Mumford are the Swans’ two inclusions for this weekend’s match, which will add some welcomed senior experience to the side.

With key players, including Adam Goodes, Lewis Jetta, Rhyce Shaw and Lewis Roberts-Thomson still on the sidelines, Reid said he had been impressed with his team’s ability to cover their injuries over the last month of football.

“It’s been really good and a lot of younger guys have stepped up and they’ve got some good experience,” he said.

“Guys like Brandon Jack have got a few games and Xavier Richards debuted and I think we’ve had five debutants.

“They’ve all shown something and it’s been really good to add to the depth of our team and to prove that even if we have guys that drop out like Goodesy and Jetts that we’ve got guys to step in and fill those roles.”

Reid said he expected a tough challenge against the Demons at the MCG on Sunday.

“They’ve been really good over the last few weeks and have definitely shown that they’re trying to be more attacking than they have been and they’ve been successful last week obviously and the week before they put up a pretty good fight against St Kilda,” he said.

“We expect them to come out and be really aggressive and we’re going to have to try to shut that down if we’re going to be a good chance to win.“
