2013 in review: rounds 16-17
The Sydney Swans settled new and old rivalries with two strong performances in rounds 16 and 17
After a feisty build up to the match, the Sydney Swans welcomed cross-town rivals GWS to the SCG for the first time and produced an emphatic performance to win by 129 points.
It was a particularly memorable afternoon for Nick Malceski who finished the match with 30 disposals, six marks and 10 rebound 50s to be awarded the Brett Kirk Medal for best on ground.
Jarrad McVeigh, Ryan O'Keefe and Josh Kennedy led the way for a Swans midfield that was far too strong for the young GWS side, while Kurt Tippett, Tom Mitchell, Jesse White and Mike Pyke all kicked three goals each.
Coach John Longmire was pleased with his side’s effort to put in a solid four quarter performance, and just as excited by the sight of Gary Rohan playing his first game since a broken leg in the Swans reserves earlier in the morning

Round 17 v West Coast
The Sydney Swans have enjoyed the trip over to Perth in recent years and this was no different as they took on West Coast at home.
After a slow start which saw the Eagles kick the opening two goals, the Swans clicked into gear as the midfield started to get on top of the contest and eventually recorded a 34-point win.
Another Patersons Stadium master-class by Dan Hannebery (40 possessions, two goals), Kieren Jack (30 possessions, two goals) and Josh Kennedy (29 possessions, one goal) was the impetus for the visitors’ fifth win in the last six games at the venue.
While the Eagles mounted a late comeback, substitute Harry Cunningham’s long-range pass to Kurt Tippett sealed the club’s seventh straight win over their old rivals.
