The Sydney Swans have made two changes for tomorrow night’s historic Anzac Day clash against St Kilda in Wellington, with Craig Bird and Andrejs Everitt returning to the side.

Swans utility Lewis Roberts-Thomson has been ruled out of tomorrow’s match with a knee injury, while Mitch Morton will be the only other change to the final 22 this week.

Swans coach John Longmire said this week’s team selection was based on getting the match-ups right against the Saints.

“We’ve just got a combination of the players we think will help us win against St Kilda and who are in some good form,” Longmire told SwansTV.

“Mitch (Morton) only played two-and-a-bit quarters last week as a sub and we just felt with the team we’ve got specifically for tomorrow against St Kilda, that the match-ups we’ve got in will help us win.”

With the Swans and St Kilda splitting the two contests last season, Longmire said he was expecting another closely contested match with the Saints.

The coach added that it was the Saints experienced stars, including Lenny Hayes, Leigh Montagna and Nick Riewoldt, who could lead the ways for them tomorrow night if let loose.

“We know St Kilda really well and they did really well against us last year on both occasions, so the challenge will be in front of us,” Longmire said.

“We’re expecting what we always expect from the Saints in that for the best part of a decade now they’ve been a really strong team and have either been in the finals or knocking on the door.

“They’ve still got some of their stars who have been able to play a big role in those grand finals, and they are still playing and are still playing well.”

Tomorrow’s match will be played at Westpac Stadium, located in the heart of Wellington and right on the edge of the harbour.

Longmire said the Swans will need to adapt to the stadium’s windy conditions during tomorrow night’s match.

“It’s a fantastic stadium,” the coach said.

“The surface is magnificent and the crowd will be right on top of us, so from that aspect it should be a really good atmosphere.

“It gets a bit windy and a bit swirly at times, so that will be a bit of a challenge for the players, I suspect, but we’re really looking forward to the game.

“The atmosphere is quite unique obviously being the first game outside of Australia for four points and Anzac Day is such a special day ,so we’re looking forward to that opportunity.”
