Sydney Swans midfielder Josh Kennedy led from the front against former side Hawthorn on Saturday night, and was rewarded with three votes in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year Award.

In a disappointing night for the Swans at the MCG, Kennedy was a shining light and showed some of his best form with 30 disposals, 13 clearances, seven tackles and two goals in the 37-point loss.

Since moving north at the end of the 2009 season, Kennedy has averaged over 26 disposals (including 17 contested possessions), eight clearances, five tackles and one goal per game in eight appearances against Hawthorn.

Hawks pair Luke Hodge (32 disposals, 10 inside 50s and five tackles) and Jarryd Roughead (27 disposals, four goals and three marks inside 50) were judged equal best on ground with each receiving nine votes from the coaches.

Despite neither player registering a vote on the weekend, Dan Hannebery and Kieren Jack remain in the top ten of voting for the Coaches Association Player of the Year gong.
