Sydney Swans fans had to wait until round 13 for Kurt Tippett’s debut in the red and white, and the club’s newest recruit didn’t disappoint from that point on.

In wet and windy conditions against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium, it took Tippett less than a minute to make an impact for his new side, with the Swans forward taking a strong contested mark just 11 seconds into the match, and then converting his first goal in his new colours just moments later.

Tippett slotted another first quarter goal at the 18 minute mark of the opening term and finished his first match for the Swans with two goals, three marks and five tackles and firmed as an important forward option for the club for the second half of the year.

The 202cm forward went on to play 12 games in his first season as a Swan and kicked multiple goals in all but two games in 2013 to finish as the club’s leading goal kicker with 35 for the year.

The 26-year-old was particularly damaging between rounds 19 to 21, with the former Crow kicking 17 goals in three matches, including six goal-hauls against the Western Bulldogs (R19) and Collingwood (R20) and five goals against St Kilda in round 21.

After a promising three months of football, Tippett’s season ended abruptly in the Swans’ semi final against Carlton at ANZ Stadium, when he suffered a knee injury in the opening five minutes of the match.

The injury saw Tippett sidelined for the remainder of the home final, as well as the Swans’ preliminary final loss to Fremantle at Patersons Stadium.

What they said

“I’m looking forward to running out again and I can’t wait to run through the banner and to be out there with 21 of my best mates,” Tippett ahead of his first match for the Swans (20/06/13)

“I just try to bring that energy and enthusiasm and settle into the side and understand how everyone plays. I’m looking to build each week and get better,” Tippett following the Swans round 16 clash with GWS (14/07/13)

''Certainly kicking straight helped him. He's been having a few shots at goal and to be able to hit the scoreboard without missing meant he was pretty important for us and really helped us.” John Longmire on Tippett’s accuracy in 2013 (04/08/13)
