The AFL has released a revised fixture for rounds six and seven of the home-and-away season, which will see all football played outside Victoria.
The revised fixture will see the Sydney Swans face Richmond at the Gabba in Round 6, followed by a home game against the Gold Coast Suns at the SCG in Round 7.
The changes have been prompted by the spike in coronavirus cases in Victoria, which have resulted in new travel and border restrictions.
All nine matches of Round 6 will be played in Sydney – at the SCG and Giants Stadium – and south-east Queensland – the Gabba and Metricon Stadium.
Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley said the current circumstances provide for a unique and great opportunity for AFL north of the Murray.
“Clearly this is a challenging time for the competition, but it’s also an enormous opportunity to put the spotlight on AFL in NSW and we intend to make the most of that,” Harley said.
“We had been looking forward to hosting up to 10,000 spectators at the SCG this weekend and unfortunately that’s had to change, but our members and partners have been incredibly understanding of the circumstances and we can now look forward to hosting them at the SCG in round seven.
"Being flexible and adaptable has been incredibly important this year and we know that mindset will need to continue for some time to come.
“We’re grateful that the competition is able to progress and we will do whatever is needed to work with the AFL and the government to ensure games can continue.”
The SCG will play host to the opening match of Round 6 but there won’t be any red and white in sight – the stadium will host a Thursday night clash between Geelong and Brisbane.
