Despite no Swans receiving coaches votes in the Round 5 loss to West Coast, Sydney Swans star Isaac Heeney continues to lead the award recognising the best NSW-bred player in the AFL, the Carey-Bunton Medal.
Co-captain Dane Rampe is the only other Swan on the leader board sitting in seventh position with six votes.
West Coast ruckman Nic Naitanui received the perfect 10 votes for his performance in the match against the Swans, with Elliot Yeo (8 votes), Dom Sheed (4 votes), Oscar Allen (4 votes), Liam Duggan (3 votes and Brad Sheppard (1 vote) also being recognised by the coaches.
Meanwhile, the player judged best on ground when Sydney and West Coast meet would traditionally be awarded the Gun Shell Gallantry Trophy, as part of the HMAS Sydney II Commemorative Match.
Given COVID-19 restrictions there was no post-match ceremony, therefore it was decided that this year the trophy would be awarded based on coaches votes.
It means Naitanui wins the Gun Shell Gallantry Trophy for 2020, after being judged the best player on the ground by the coaches in Saturday’s match.
