I think it was the day after the game that I decided to clean my room.
I’m by no means a hoarder but I’m great at accumulating different magazines, articles, books and apple cores and finding a place for them in my bedroom.
I had bits of newspapers and articles everywhere and as I was throwing them out I came across a quote, “intent defines outcome”.
This made me stop and think about the game last weekend against Richmond.
I’m not sure why it was the case as we were playing for a spot in the finals, but our intent wasn’t there. Richmond came at us hard and the score at the end of the game “defined the outcome”.
We had an honest review of the game on Monday and quite a few things were addressed. We spoke about a lot of things but one major theme was just doing the simple things, winning the ball in the contest and beating our opponent … the basics of football which we didn’t do.
By Monday night the review was done and it was all about learning from the highlighted areas, and to start looking forward to our game against St Kilda on Sunday.
On a positive note the reserves had a great win on the weekend and there’s a lot of players pushing for selection this week - one of which is Gary Rohan who is on the comeback trail after a few obstacles this year with injuries.
He’s been slowly getting his fitness back and from all reports* played some great football on the weekend in the reserves. (*However, when I say “from all reports” I should point out that it was actually Gary Rohan telling me how well he played, and not an unbiased onlooker).
We’re all really looking forward to a big week of training and getting ourselves ready for St Kilda on Sunday at ANZ Stadium. There’s only three games left of the home and away season and each game is just so important. Hope you can make it on Sunday.
