SCG opens to fans
Thousands of Sydney Swans fans flocked to the SCG today to farewell their team ahead of this weekend's Grand Final
More than two thousand loyal Swans fans turned out for the Sydney Swans open training session at the SCG this afternoon.
The Sydney fans rolled into the stands ahead of the team’s first training session of the week, and greeted every player with a welcoming cheer as they ran onto the ground.
Well known Swans fan Kenny Williams was a crowd favourite, while Adam Goodes, Jude Bolton and Ted Richards were almost as popular amongst the red and white faithful.
The Sydney media was also on high alert for today’s events, with the usually reserved city media getting caught up in the buzz with countless TV stations and journalists capturing the action for tonight’s news.
Behind the scenes, the SCG was transformed into a Swans playground with activities located behind the members’ stand for the Swans’ youngest fans.
The Sydney Swans training session could not have come at a better time for the kids, with the school holidays beginning just in time for young fans to farewell their favourite Swans stars before they leave for Melbourne later this week.
For many Swans players, today’s open training session was just a taste of the heightened Grand Final atmosphere they will be greeted with when they arrive in Melbourne on Thursday evening.
The players will take part in the annual Grand Final Parade in front of tens of thousands of fans through the streets of Melbourne on Friday, before lining up in the season decider at the MCG on Saturday afternoon against Hawthorn.
