Swans reserves storm to victory
Sam Reid starred for the reserves, along with Jesse White, Lewis Jetta and Nathan Gordon...
Ruckman Sam Reid was the Swans’ best, along with Lewis Jetta and Nathan Gordon who both collected over 30 possessions playing on the ball.
Jesse White took a number of strong marks and booted eight goals, while Byron Sumner and Chris McKaigue were also standouts, spending time on the wing and at halfback.
White started with a bang, and had kicked four goals by the 17 minute mark of the first quarter. Three came from strong marks and the fourth from a banana kick ten metres out after he took a screamer.
Patrick Veszpremi goaled at the 21 minute mark from 40 metres out and Lewis Johnston put his name on the board a few minutes later after a beautiful cross-field pass from Jetta.
Byron Sumner kicked the Swans seventh goal at the 28 minute mark from a tight angle after a quick handball from White. The Swans led Tuggeranong by 46 points at quarter time after keeping them goalless in the first quarter.
The second quarter was much tighter, with the Swans only extending the margin by two points by the half time break despite Sam Reid dominating the ruck.
During the term the Swans and Tuggeranong each kicked three goals with Johnston booting two and top-up player Gabe Robbie goaling on the run after a quick handpass from White.
Tuggeranong kicked the first goal of the second half before Sumner kicked his second from the crumbs of a spilled White mark.
At the five minute mark Tuggeranong kicked their second goal of the quarter but top-up player Kieran Emery replied a few minutes later with a goal on the run.
At the 15 minute mark Jetta goaled from 40 metres on the run and a minute later White kicked his fifth from 30 metres after a chain of handballs. Tuggeranong kicked their seventh goal at the 19 minute mark but White and Jetta both kicked goals for the Swans before the end of the quarter.
At the three quarter time the Swans had extended their lead to 58 points.
By the nine minute mark of the final term Veszpremi had kicked his second goal, from the goal square, and Tuggeranong had kicked their only goals for the quarter. The Swans added three more before the final siren to come to the final 80 point margin. White kicked his seventh after marking a long kick from Jetta, Emery goaled from a Gordon pass and a Sumner kick to White on the boundary line resulted in White’s eighth.
The Swans will now meet Ainslie on Saturday 17 July at 2pm at Ainslie Oval.
