Swans pair Nick Malceski and Lewis Roberts-Thomson have both been cleared of structural damage from their respective injuries suffered in Sunday’s 37-point win over the Hawks.

Malceski, who was subbed out of the game with a knee injury, received the all clear to train this week and will be in line for selection this weekend.

Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron said scans have cleared the defender of any serious knee concerns.

“Nick in the second quarter was involved in a collision to the outside of his knee,” he said.

“He’s got some soreness over the inside, but he’s had an MRI and he’s been cleared of any structural damage.”

Cameron said Malceski trained lightly at today’s session and will be tested at the end of the week.

“We’ll just see how the week pans out.

“He was able to run today and we’re hoping he’ll be able to train, and if he can train, well then he’s a chance of playing.”

It’s also good news for Robert-Thomson, who received a knock to the face in Sunday’s game.

Cameron said the key position player, who missed the previous two matches with a fractured cheekbone, has also been cleared of any serious damage.

“(Roberts-Thomson) got a knock to the head and he had a face cut from that, but he was cleared of all damage to his face and all the structure, like his cheekbone and so on,” he said.

“He was all clear, so we’ll just see how he trains, and based on that he should be right to play.”

Swans ruckman Shane Mumford is on the mend following a procedure to remove an infection in his back.

Cameron said he expects Mumford to start a training program next week.

“(Mumford) is up and about,” he said.

“He has been a bit unwell because of the infection but at least he’s up … and he’ll start now returning to activity and training.

“We’ll have more of an idea of what his program will be and how he returns probably by next week.”

In positive news for one of the club’s youngest players, Swans first-round draft pick Tom Mitchell is expected to get his first taste of football in the reserves this weekend.

“Tom is due to play this weekend,” Cameron said.

“He’s got one more session to do, but he trained well today and we should be getting him across the white line on Saturday.”
