Dan looking to consolidate against GWS

After successive victories over two top sides, Swans midfielder Dan Hannebery says a win over GWS in tomorrow night’s second Sydney Derby is vital for the Swans’ season hopes.
While the Swans recent wins over finals contenders Essendon and Geelong have been impressive, Hannebery said his team mustn’t let their guard down at ANZ Stadium this weekend.
“Every week now is so important with the top half of the ladder so jammed up and we’ve got to make sure we win these games because they are so important for this season,” Hannebery told sydneyswans.com.au.
“These sorts of games where we have to win are very important, so we’ve got to make sure we do the job and that’s why we’re preparing really well this week.
“These are the games where it’s really important to make sure we consolidate two really good wins.”
According to Hannebery, the Swans have not taken their foot off the pedal this week, and are preparing for the Giants with the same vigour they prepared for the reigning premiers last round.
“It’s no different to any other week,” he said.
“We can’t rock up and be five-to-ten per cent off and lack effort because if we do, GWS are a good enough side to make sure they make us pay.
“It’s really important that we give a 100 per cent effort this week otherwise it won’t be good enough.”
The Swans came out on top in the first Sydney Derby, defeating GWS by 63 points in the season opener.
Hannebery said he has followed the progress of the Swans’ cross-town rivals in their inaugural season, and is expecting a tough contest this week.
“For a young side they’ve been really competitive and are a hard-tackling, ball-winning side so far this year and we’re expecting no different this week,” he said.
“They’re good starters and they’ve been in every game they’ve played, so for a young side in their first year it’s a real credit to them.
“We’ve got to make sure we come out as hard, if not harder and make sure we start well as well.”
The young midfielder added that the Swans are not concerned about the ‘fadeouts’ in their previous two matches, but will be aiming to produce four quarters of consistent football this weekend.
“We’ve made sure we’ve got off to really good starts, which has been good for us but we need to take care of what happens after,” he said.
“Sometimes it’s not necessarily a fadeout, it’s that the other team gets momentum and are able to get a few goals.
“We just need to make sure that when a team does get a few goals that we recognise that and make sure each of us play our role and beat our man for that five-to-ten minute period where an opposition gets a run on.
“We’re not too worried about it, we’ve just got to make sure we keep doing what we know and just win games of footy.”
