The Sydney Swans will travel to face the Adelaide Crows at AAMI Stadium on Saturday September 8 from 2.45pm (Adelaide time).

The Swans/Crows 2nd Qualifying Final will be the second match of the weekend with minor premier Hawthorn to host Collingwood on Friday night at the MCG in the 1st Qualifying Final.

The first week of finals will conclude with Fremantle travelling to the MCG to face Geelong on the Saturday night and West Coast hosting North Melbourne at Patersons Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Both these finals will be elimination finals.

The loser of the Adelaide v Sydney Swans clash will host the winner of the Geelong v Fremantle final on the Friday night of September 14.

AFL Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetriou said the AFL had determined that the highest teams on the ladder in the top four should play the opening matches in the 2012 Toyota AFL Finals Series.

"As the leading sides over the premiership season, Hawthorn, the Adelaide Crows, the Sydney Swans and Collingwood were all scheduled to play in the Friday and Saturday afternoon slots so that the losers of the Qualifying Finals will have a longer break going into the second week of the finals, when playing knock-out semi-finals.

"An afternoon match at AAMI Stadium between the Crows and the Swans will also enable the Swans to return home that night - an advantage they deserve over the sides outside of the top four by virtue of their performance over the home and away season.

“It was the AFL’s view that we wished to maximise both attendances at the MCG, as well as providing big games for our television viewing audiences, by placing the Hawthorn v Collingwood match on Friday night and the Geelong Cats v Fremantle match on Saturday night,” Mr Demetriou said.

“We congratulate all the teams that have made the eight and look forward to an exciting finals series given the quality of the football that has been on display through the first 23 rounds,” he said.

“We thank all football supporters for their support of the game throughout 2012 and look forward to them enjoying the finals series.”
