Swans’ young gun Luke Parker will undergo surgery this week after breaking his collarbone in Sunday afternoon’s win over the Western Bulldogs.

The 19-year-old, who is in his second year at the club, was injured in a contest with Bulldogs captain Matthew Boyd in the third quarter and was immediately subbed out of the match.

It was disappointing news for Parker who has built on his first season form with Swans, averaging 20 disposals per match this year and securing himself a regular spot in the Sydney midfield.

Speaking to SwansTV at yesterday’s recovery at Balmoral Beach, Parker said he will go under the knife early this week.

“I’ve snapped (my) collarbone now, I’ll have surgery (Tuesday) and then get out after that, and try and get back as soon as I can,” Parker said.

“I’ll be getting a plate and screws in there.”

With the Swans’ bye to follow this Saturday night’s clash with Essendon, Parker said he might take the opportunity to head home to Melbourne for some much needed TLC.

“I’m not sure (if I’ll go home),” he said.

“I might go home for a week or so and try and get mum to look after me a little bit, which wouldn’t be too bad!”

Following Sunday’s match, Swans’ coach John Longmire said he expects Parker will be out for at least six weeks.

“He’s got a broken collarbone, so he’ll be out for 6-8 weeks,” he said.

“It’s unfortunate for him because he’s been a really good contributor for us.

“For a super young player he’s hard and tough and has had a couple of breaks this year. I know he’s tough but I don’t think he’ll be coming back any quicker than that.”
