The Swans Reserves suffered a huge loss to Belconnen on Saturday, going down by 109 points after starting the game with just nine listed players and ending the game with only five.

The Swans had just three shots at goal in the first term and missed them all while Belconnen goaled seven times to be 40 points ahead at the first break.

In the second term the Swans were more competitive, with Mike Pyke worrying Belconnen and Patrick Veszpremi kicking three goals. But Belconnen managed to kick another seven goals and had extended the margin to 58 points by half time.

The Swans' first shot on goal in the third quarter hit the post for the third time in the game but a running goal to Veszpremi, his fourth, from 50 metres soon after got the Swans on the board. Ryan Brabazon kicked the Swans’ last goal of the quarter, and the game, after a clearance from Luke Ablett. The Swans' effort in the third term was good but Belconnen were a strong opposition and the five goals they added blew the margin out to 76 points.

Belconnen kicked another five goals in the final term and kept the Swans goalless in a quarter that saw just five listed players on the field. O’Keefe left the ground on a stretcher after a knock to the head; Pyke left with calf problems and Veszpremi and Brendan Murphy had fulfilled the amount of game time allotted to them on return from injury.

Ablett was the Swans’ best player with 40 possessions. Taylor Gilchrist, who played at centre half back, and Pyke in the ruck were also impressive. Brabazon, Nick Malceski and Veszpremi were also named in the best players.

The Swans Reserves play Eastlake on Saturday 28 June at Manuka Oval at 2pm.
