Lewis Jetta rounded out the scheduled practice matches with a superb three goal performance against St Kilda at Coffs Harbour last Saturday night.

Speaking to sydneyswans.com.au, Jetta was pleased with his return out of the game against the Saints and was hoping he could replicate that form when the season begins against Melbourne on March 27.

“It was good to actually kick more goals than points in one game,” Jetta said.

“I’m just going to try and build on that, and whatever I did to kick those goals, I’ll just try and bring that into the games this year.”

While Jetta’s performance was the exclamation mark on a solid pre-season, he does admit that he was not entirely happy with the way he started out his second off season at the Club.

“To be honest, it hurt me this pre-season,” he said.

“I thought I would be fit, but I wasn’t and I struggled a little (at the start).

“It only took me a few weeks to get back into it, then I was at full pace and fit again.”   

Jetta played wing and half forward against St Kilda, with coach John Longmire commenting after the game that his ability to break the lines and drive the team forward was vital - a component of his play that Jetta hopes can help him deal with added attention that he is expecting from opponents this year.

“(To deal with my opponents) I’ll probably just do my simple long runs and try and finish off with goals to hurt them on the scoreboard - that will be the key this year,” Jetta said.

The increased focus from opponents won’t be the only pressure Jetta will need to cope with in 2011, with yesterday’s Swans media season launch proving he is very much a man in demand.

“I’m getting a little bit used to all the media attention now,” he said.

“I reckon I’m coping pretty well with it all, it’s just the big questions that I’m still trying to work on.”

As highlighted in last week’s Jet's Journal, Jetta has recently been joined in Sydney by his girlfriend Jess and new son, Lewis, who he believes are helping him settle and spur him on.  

“It just makes me feel more comfortable, and now I can just relax a bit more,” Jetta said.

“He (Lewis) motivates me to play good footy and do the best I can for him, and also the extra support as well from Jess.”

Lewis Jetta is a $225,200 midfielder in the Toyota AFL Dream Team competition.
