After more than six months away, the Swans returned to the SCG this Saturday for the club’s first home game of the 2012 season.

Red and white outnumbered purple around the ground as 22,242 fans turned out for the round two clash with Fremantle.

With both teams scoring wins in round one, there was an air of excitement among fans who expected a close and fiery encounter between the two sides.

The crowd roared as the Swans ran out through their banner, which marked popular player Lewis Roberts-Thomson’s 150th game for the club.

Outstanding early performances from Sydney youngsters Lewis Jetta and Sam Reid excited the crowd early as the Swans lead by 40 points at half time.

As the Dockers came back in the third term, fans were on the edge of their seats willing on their favorite team.

Just as Swans fans have come to expect, a brilliant mark and goal by co-captain Adam Goodes in front of the Sydney cheer squad delighted fans, and spurred the team to lock down the match and come away with a 13-point win.

‘Cheer, cheer the Red and the White’ was heard for the first time at the SCG this season as the Swans charged to their second win of the 2012 season.

Before the game, there was also plenty of fun to be had for Swans fans around the ground.

Hundreds of kids took part in the first installment of the Volkswagen Fan Zone for the 2012 season, which will be on site at every Swans home game this season.

Kids were able to test out their football skills in both the Volkswagen Handball and Kicking Challenge, while families were able to exercise their vocal chords in the Swans Club Song Car.

Inside the ground there was just as much action, with Swans fans packing out the Red Zone behind the goals with thousands of other Sydney faithful.

The Sydney Swans Forward Pocket function was also a hit, with over 100 fans experiencing the match from the best seat in the house.

It was a night of celebration for Swans fans all round, and there is no doubt there will be just as much fun to be had when the Swans return to the SCG in round four against North Melbourne.
