Swans ruckman Shane Mumford will face a fitness test later this week following his late withdrawal from Saturday’s game.

Mumford, who was replaced in the ruck by Mark Seaby in the team’s round two clash with the Dockers, pulled up with a sore back from the team’s final training session.

Sydney Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron said Mumford’s condition has improved and he will be tested on Thursday ahead of the Swans round three match against Port Adelaide.

“Shane’s back unfortunately pulled up sore from the last training session so we had to pull him out of the game,” Cameron told sydneyswans.com.au.

“He has improved since then and trained yesterday and we’re happy with the way he’s going, he just needs to get through training and pull up well on Thursday and then he’ll be ready to go.

“He’ll need to be able to (train) and pull up well and if he does he will be on the plane to Adelaide.”

Swans utility Lewis Roberts-Thomson is set to miss up to three weeks as a result of a fractured cheekbone.

Cameron said Roberts-Thomson underwent surgery for the injury, and his condition will be monitored over the next few weeks.

“He suffered a fracture to his cheekbone and he’s needed surgery to stabilise that fracture, so he’s had a plate with some screws in it just to hold it steady,” he said.

“Over the next few weeks it mends and we’ll assess him over the next couple of weeks as to when he’ll be exactly right to play.”

Swans first-round draft pick, Tom Mitchell, has experienced a further set-back, with knee tendinitis likely to keep the teenager out for up to three weeks.

Cameron said Mitchell will be assessed on a week-to-week basis.

“Tom, who has been training for a couple of weeks and was due to play this week, last week his knee got sore again so he had to shelve our plans for this week,” he said.

“We’ll know more next week as to how long it will be before he returns to play.”
