Midfielder Tim Schmidt has further staked his claim for the seniors berth collecting a massive 62 possessions and three goals in the Swans Reserves 182-34 win over Ainslie in round seven on Saturday afternoon.

The Swans led by 39 points at quarter time after a competitive start from both sides, with the Swans only kicking their first goal seven minutes into the term. But three goals from Simon Phillips, two from Jonathan Simpkin and singles from Kristin Thornton and Paul Bevan saw the Swans’ drift well in front of fourth placed Ainslie.

With a further three goals to Simpkin, an additional two to Phillips, goals to Matthew Laidlaw, Heath Grundy, Bevan and Earl Shaw and the tackle count doubling for the Swans, the Reserves managed to move 100 points in the clear by the half time break and keep Ainslie scoreless.

The third quarter saw the quantity of goals scored drop, but the quality of play did not change and the Swans were 116 points in front at three quarter time with goals scored by Sean Dempster, Jarred Moore, Matt Davis and Sam Rowe.

The Swans added another seven goals to their score in the last quarter as they continued to attack the ball.

Schmidt kicked all three of his goals in this term and with Grundy, Rowe, Phillips and Dempster each kicking goals the Swans finished the game 148 points in front.

Schmidt, who was drafted from Robertstown at selection 29 in the 2003 draft, was the Swans’ best while Moore, Phillips, Bevan, James Wall and Stefan Garrubba were also strong contributors.

The Swans Reserves next hurdle is Eastlake, who are one of the form teams of the competition, on Saturday June 3 at 2.15pm at Ainslie Oval in Canberra.
