Sydney Swans reserves coach Henry Playfair has lauded the effort shown by his entire side in their 188-point victory over Queanbeyan at the SCG on Saturday afternoon.

Playfair put the convincing nature of the victory down to his team’s willingness to work for each other and play unselfish football throughout the four quarters.

“The boys were really focused to put in a good team performance, and that’s what they did for four quarters, which was really pleasing,” Playfair told SwansTV.

“We played well as an 18-man team on the ground.

“When you start to get on top, blokes can drift away from the game plan and you might see a few selfish things creep in. To the boy’s credit, they stuck to playing unselfish, disciplined footy.”

Playfair said he found it hard to highlight individual performances over others in such a comprehensive victory, but nominated the efforts of Jarred Moore and Luke Parker for setting the standard for the team early in the match.

“Jarred Moore set us up with four tackles in the first quarter and a couple of assists,” he said.

“(Luke) worked really hard, which he does pretty much every week. He certainly won plenty of the ball around the clearances, and won his fair share of clearances, and played a good all-round game.”

Trent Dennis-Lane, Nathan Gordon and Matt Spangher contributed 22 of the team’s 33 goals for the game, and Playfair said he was pleased with their combined output.

“It was really pleasing for (Nathan) to get some reward for his effort, because he is another one whose effort has been pretty consistent all season,” Playfair said.

“(Trent’s) a crafty, smart forward, and that’s the way he played on the weekend. We’ve still been into him about his pressure, which did drop off a little bit I thought after half-time, but he certainly got on the end of a few kicks.

“We haven’t seen much of (Matt) as a forward, but he certainly led to the right spots and took a few nice catches and a couple of contested marks. He converted really well, I think he kicked six straight (goals) on the day.”

The reserves travel to Canberra this Saturday to take on Tuggeranong at Greenway Oval from 2pm. Playfair said he was looking for his side to travel well and put in a similar performance to last weekend’s four quarter effort.

“(It’s) another challenge this week, to play well in Canberra, which in the past we’ve dropped off a little bit when we’ve travelled down there,” Playfair said.

“Certainly that will be the big focus this week, to play well away from home and back up the performance from this week.”
