When the Sydney Swans take on Geelong this Saturday night at the SCG, it will be the first time the two Clubs have met at the ground since the memorable 2005 semi-final.

Four goals to Nick Davis in the final quarter that night, including the match-winner three seconds before the final siren, helped the Swans snatch a thrilling victory.

Current Club captains Adam Goodes and Cameron Ling, who both played in the 2005 final, spoke of their memories of that match when they met up earlier this season.

“It was a really tough challenge for us coming into that week and we knew Geelong would put in an almighty effort. It was close all night long and Lingy (Cameron Ling) and I played on each other for all four quarters of that game,” Goodes recalled.

“As it turned out it was just one player who turned that game in the last quarter and we all know who that was - Nick Davis who kicked four goals from absolutely nowhere,” he said.

The current Swans players who played in the 2005 semi-final are Paul Bevan, Adam Goodes, Jude Bolton, Tadhg Kennelly, Ryan O’Keefe and Lewis Roberts-Thomson.

Swans development coach Henry Playfair played in the match for Geelong, while assistant coach Leigh Tudor was sitting in the Cats coaches box alongside Mark Thompson.

Geelong have the wood over the Swans in recent times, winning the last eight clashes between the two teams. The Swans have not beaten Geelong since 2006, however the Swans have won the past four matches played at the SCG (2003-2005).
