Sydney Swans forward Sam Reid will face a fitness test ahead of this Sunday’s clash with the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium.

Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron confirmed that Reid, who has missed two weeks of football after suffering a partial tear to the medial ligament of his right knee in Round 18, could be in line to make his return this week if he is able to get through training this week.

“Sam is going well,” Cameron told SwansTV.

“He started running and did some speed work yesterday and he is due to train tomorrow doing some agility and so on.

“If he can do that, and his knee copes well with that, we’ll look towards training him on Friday with the view of returning this weekend.”

Cameron said Swans veteran midfielder Jude Bolton has also shown improvement in his injured knee this week.

He said Bolton, who hyper-extended his knee against Carlton in round 19, jogged his first steps on the treadmill this week.

“(Jude) is going well and his knee is settling down,” he said.

“There is a not a lot of soreness in it now (when he is) walking around.

“We were actually able to run him on the treadmill yesterday, and that went well, but he’s not quite ready to run on the grass.”

Cameron added that once Bolton is able to return to the training track, the club could assess just how long the 32-year-old would spend on the sidelines.

“He’s in the gym and he’s working pretty hard,” he said.

“He’s close to starting to run and then we’ll get an idea of when we can start training and when he is likely to return to play.”

In other injury news, Swans young gun Gary Rohan has made good progress after fracturing his tibia in round four.

Cameron said Rohan has been working hard in the gym and has also increased his walking workload.

“(Gary is) doing more and more work in the gym and is working on his conditioning,” he said.

“He is largely doing pool work and is on the bike and so on, but he has started walking outside for fitness.”

Cameron joked that with Rohan’s progress, he could be on track to qualify for the next Olympic Games.

“He’s trying to get his lap times down for walking the SCG, and at the moment we’re working towards Rio as a race walker!”
