Jet’s Journal – cheering the boys on
Jets sat in the stands last weekend and was inspired by watching his Swans team-mates…
What a great win against St Kilda last Saturday. I was an emergency and spent the game sitting in the grandstand at Etihad with the crowd, and with Nick Malceski who was also emergency.
It was an awesome feeling in that last quarter. It’s definitely not better than being out there, but in some ways I felt like a kid again, going to watch an AFL game and cheering for my team.
Watching from the stand you could see how good our pressure was, and I wanted to stand up and shout but thought I’d better be professional!
Malceski and I had a good laugh at how worked up some of the fans get, how they’re always screaming ‘’holding the ball’’!
It also helped me see where the coaches are coming from when they tell us different points after the game.
Watching it, I could see there were things the team could have done better, but sometimes those things are hard to see when you’re actually out there in the thick of it playing.
I learned a bit too watching Gary Rohan, just the way he used his pace and took on players. His tackling and forward pressure was fantastic and I want to do more of that.
I’m training hard, trying to do everything right to give myself a chance to get back into the team. I trained pretty well yesterday and I just want to get my skills right.
Horse (coach John Longmire) has told us just to keep preparing the same way and doing our trademark stuff during games. There’s real confidence there if we stick to our game plan.
It’s inspiring to watch how some of our older guys go about things at training. I’m inspired by Goodesy and for him to play his 300th game this Friday will be amazing.
Jarrad McVeigh also inspires me. He’s shown so much toughness recently and he has got a strong heart.
They are showing me that the more hard work you put in, the more you get out of it.
People look at Goodesy and think he’s incredible but they don’t see all the hard work he does. He does a lot of things that no-one really knows about to make sure that he’s ready.
He’s 31 and he’s still the fastest in the club over a short distance - faster than me and Gary Rohan. That’s my goal later in the year during the pre-season - to improve my speed and get faster than Goodesy!
