The Sydney Swans reserves have won back-to-back games for the first time in 2012 and moved to third position on the NEAFL Eastern Conference table after a convincing 34-point win over the Brisbane Lions reserves at Yeronga on Saturday afternoon.

Thanks to a six goal to nil opening quarter, the Swans led comfortably at ever break and held the advantage until the final siren despite the Lions having one more scoring shot on goal.

An early goal at the start of the final term to the Lions through Dayne Zorko gave the hosts a sniff of victory, but the Swans held their composure to claim an important away victory in the 27-degree heat of Brisbane.

With Trent Dennis-Lane called up to senior duty, and Nathan Gordon travelling to Melbourne as the non-playing emergency, much of the Swans scoring relied on Mitch Morton, and he didn't disappoint as the crafty forward added to his goal tally with eight majors, moving into second place in the Eastern Conference goalkicking chart in the process.

Tommy Walsh was the Swans other multiple goalkicker with two as he was named amongst the best players for the visitors. Both he and Morton benefitted from the midfield work of Jarred Moore, who was again outstanding, and Harry Cunningham who also continued the good form he showed against Sydney University the week before.

With Jesse White also on senior duty, Mike Pyke shouldered the bulk of the Swans ruck duties and was a key component in the Swans midfield dominance, especially early in the game.

Despite conceding 31 shots on goal, the Swans defence, led by rookie Campbell Heath, stood strong on enemy territory, with only Lions dangerman Aaron Cornelius proving a headache with four goals. Like he did in the corresponding fixture last year where he kicked six, Cornelius threatened to tear the game apart with a run of two goals in as many minutes at the end of the first half, but the Swans defence regrouped at the main break and limited the Lions' number 44 to just one second half goal.

The Swans reserves will return to the SCG this Saturday ahead of the seniors match against Melbourne, when they host second-placed Eastlake in a huge Eastern Conference battle. The match kicks off at 1pm.
