Sydney Swans stalwarts Adam Goodes and Jude Bolton last night received AFL Life Membership at the 2012 AFL Premiership Season Launch held at the Sydney Town Hall.
The Swans duo qualified for Life Membership as a result of reaching 300 games of service in the AFL.
Goodes has played 300 games for the Swans, 23 pre-season matches and has represented the AFL in the International Rules Series four times, while Bolton has played 279 games, 23 pre-season matches and has been an International Rules Series player once.
Goodes and Bolton are also placed second and third respectively on the Sydney Swans games record list, with Goodes trailing record holder Michael O’Loughlin by just three games.
All going well for Goodes, the Swans co-captain will eclipse O’Loughlin’s record in round four at the SCG in the Swans home game against North Melbourne.
Speaking on behalf of all the inductees at last night’s Season Launch, Goodes said it was an honour for all to receive the accolade for the contribution they’ve made to the game.
“I look at all these people (the Life Members) here tonight and what fantastic contributions we’ve all made to the game, and I know when we got involved in AFL … we didn’t do it for this achievement, we did it for the love of the game, we did it because we wanted to make the game better,” he said.
“Through the times we’ve been involved in football, the game has evolved and come a long way and to have an event like this in Sydney this week is a big part of that as well."
Also receiving Life Membership last night, was former Swans captain Barry Hall and Swans Hall of Fame inductee Graeme John.
AFL Chief Executive Officer Andrew Demetriou said all of the 12 Life Members inducted on the night have served the game in outstanding fashion through their careers, and Like Membership was a reward for their efforts in building the game, either on field as players or their off field work.
