The Swans Reserves started the 2006 season with a 132 point win over the Queanbeyan Tigers, proving to be much too strong in perfect conditions at the SCG on Sunday.
Nick Malceski, playing on the ball and forward, Matthew Laidlaw at centre half back and David Spriggs were the Swans’ best while Heath Grundy at centre half forward, Simon Phillips, playing in the forward line, and Jarred Moore, on ball, were also first-class.
Queanbeyan kicked the first goal for the match but only managed one more for the quarter while Phillips kicked two for the Swans and Shaw, Spriggs, Tim Schmidt, Malceski and Matthew Davis kicked one each to put the Swans 31 points in front at quarter time.
Moore opened the second quarter with a goal and Adam Prior kicked the Swans’ second before Queanbeyan added two to their score, but goals to Grundy and Malceski at the end of the half extended their lead to 68 points.
By three quarter time the Swans’ lead was 73 points after Moore and Phillips kicked goals and Grundy added two to the scoreboard, while Queanbeyan were kept goalless.
In the last quarter the Swans kicked 11 goals in 16 minutes with Phillips kicking three, Ryan Brabazon and Malceski kicking two and Grundy, Moore, Schmidt and Prior all kicking one each to come to the final 132 point margin after Queanbeyan only managed one goal for the term.
The Swans have a bye next week but meet Eastlake on April 23 at the SCG as the curtain raiser for the Swans vs. Melbourne game.
