Sam Reid tells sydneyswans.com.au about his debut game against the Brisbane Lions, what areas of his game he needs to improve on for 2011, and his plans for the break...

What was your highlight for the season?
Certainly playing my first senior game; it was pretty amazing and something that was probably outside my expectations this year. When I was named as an emergency against Melbourne this year that was even beyond my expectations, but I was training well and the coaches said they were considering me and that I was close.

Which of your team-mates have most impressed you this year?
Just in general the leadership group players have really impressed me. Guys like Kirky and Jude Bolton, you don’t realise how much work they do until you come here and see it for yourself. They really show you what is required to become a 200-plus game player.

Which end of the ground do you see yourself playing in the future?
I’d like to see myself as a forward. I’m still learning at both ends of the ground but I think that marking is one of my strengths and that could be more valuable up forward.

What areas of your game do you need to improve on for 2011?
I need to bulk my body up a bit so I can match it with some of the bigger, key position players at AFL level. My fitness is something I can work on too.

What are your plans for the break?
I’m going to head home and spend some time recovering and resting my body. I’ll then get back into some running and try to build a good fitness base for the preseason. After the Club Champion Dinner, I’m off to Bali.
