John Longmire said changes could be made to the Swans’ side following Saturday afternoon’s disappointing performance against the Tigers.

On the back of the club’s 29-point loss to Richmond, which was the Swans’ second consecutive loss after five early season wins, Longmire said he would be re-evaluating the team’s structure for this weekend’s round eight clash against Melbourne.

“We didn’t play with the kind of intensity we intended to before the game and it doesn’t matter who you play these days, you’ve got to make sure you maintain that intensity and it was very clear early that we didn’t have it,” he said.

“For six weeks I think the players have been pretty good, but on the weekend it was clearly an unacceptable performance.

“I think it would be hard to find a winner across the ground, and it’s very hard to win a game of footy when you haven’t got that.”

While the senior team couldn’t secure a win this weekend, the Swans reserves produced an impressive performance over the Brisbane Lions reserves, winning by 34 points.

Longmire said there were a number of players from the reserves side who would be pushing for selection over the coming weeks.

“It was good to see in our reserves we had a strong win against Brisbane and there were some players in that particular game that played well,” he said.

“Players like (Mike) Pyke, (Tommy) Walsh, (Tony) Armstrong and Jarred Moore, and those blokes have been playing pretty consistently over the last few weeks so we’ll need to consider that.”

But the coach said the selection committee was unlikely to make too many hasty decisions after one poor performance.

“We need to make sure whether it was a one game (poor performance) or is it a trend,” he said.

“We need to make sure we make the right decision this week at the selection table in regards to individuals.

“I think in general the players who have had the runs on the board for a long time certainly have the opportunity to turn it around.

“We don’t throw the baby out of the bathwater in one week, but we’ll also be looking at the structure of the team and what we need for this week against Melbourne.”

Longmire said young midfielder Luke Parker, who was subbed out of Saturday’s game with a knee injury, would be tested for fitness this week.

“Luke was a bit sore in the knee afterwards. He had a knock on the knee but he’s OK today, but a little bit ginger,” he said.

“We’ll have to wait until Thursday to see if he’s able to train.

“There isn’t too much damage there. He had a scan and it’s just a matter of a bit of soreness now.

Longmire said Lewis Roberts-Thomson is also a possibility to return this week, after missing this weekend’s game with a bruised heel.
