A SORE hamstring never threatened to rule Shane Mumford out of the Grand Final, the Sydney Swans ruckman says.

Rumours circulated on Saturday morning that the 26-year-old could be a late withdrawal with a strained hamstring.

But he made the cut, and although it wasn't his best performance and he was subbed out in the last quarter, Mumford said he was never a chance of missing the game.

"It was just a little bit sore. There was nothing too bad about it. I pulled up a bit sore after training on Thursday but felt good ahead of the game so it was fine," Mumford said post-game.

"There's no need to talk it up, it was just a little bit sore. We've all played with injuries and stuff like that before."

Mumford battled hard in the ruck, and won 14 hit-outs, but struggled to have an impact around the ground. He had one touch in the first half and finished with just six before being handed in the red vest in the last term.

"I just struggled to get near the ball," Mumford said. "It doesn't matter now, we've got the win. I'm over the moon."

But as he watched from the bench, Mumford couldn't have been prouder of teammate Mike Pyke, who shouldered the ruck duties and played an excellent Grand Final.

"With me not playing for the last quarter and Mike doing it all on his own, it's not an easy thing to do at any stage," Mumford said.

"To do it in the last quarter of a Grand Final was absolutely outstanding for him."

Mumford crossed to the Swans at the end of 2009, having missed out on Geelong's premiership that season. He admits he had thought a bit this week about that experience and whether he would get a shot at a premiership again.

"Six years ago I never would have thought this was possible," he said.

"[The 2009 Grand Final] went through my head a little bit but to be up here with a group of guys I love playing with is great. They gave me the opportunity and I'm thankful for it."
