DARREN Jolly may have grabbed the headlines with his effort in the ruck last weekend, but Sydney Swans assistant coach John Longmire says Peter ‘Spida’ Everitt's contribution has been valuable.

Everitt picked up his first possession in the third quarter and ended with three disposals and 14 hitouts in last Saturday's 35-point win over North Melbourne in the elimination final.

But the Swans coaching coordinator is looking beyond the stats and sees Everitt's overall contribution as a vital part of the Swans' ruck armoury.

"At the end it's not just about kicks, marks and handballs from Spida," Longmire said.

"He's a very smart ruckman and his tap work is still sensational and he's able to give us good ground level service."

Jolly was magnificent against North Melbourne with 40 hitouts and six disposals. His third quarter was outstanding where he combined with Brett Kirk at ground level to smash North in the clearances. Goals from stoppages were a key factor in the win.

Jolly has amassed 530 hitouts this season. He and Everitt are set to take on Bulldogs pair Will Minson and Ben Hudson in Friday's semi-final. The Dogs pair are on 296 and 288 hitouts respectively in 2008.

"We've got to make sure that Darren Jolly and Spida go again which they were good at last week and they've got to serve it up again this week against a couple of pretty good ruckmen," Longmire said.

"That the challenge for those two players to do it again and also for our ground level players."

With speculation rife about Everitt's future, Longmire said he's just happy to see the 34-year-old contribute alongside 26-year-old Jolly.

"Spida's just got to make sure he contributes which he's been doing and we've been happy with that. He's been coming off the bench and playing a very good supportive role," added Longmire.
