In this week's Game Plan, Swans midfield coach, Leigh Tudor, talks about an improved second half against GWS last weekend and what it will take to beat Brisbane tomorrow evening...

Looking back on last week’s win over the Giants, I thought we were pretty sloppy early in the match and we didn’t seem to help each other early in the game compared to the second half. In the second half, however, we got our hands dirty and started helping each other.

What happened was we were winning the ball in the first half, but when we got pressured or tackled there wasn’t anyone there to help and we sort of ran away and were looking for too much easy ball, but fortunately in the second half we were a lot better and started to play pretty good footy.

It seemed almost out of character to have a slow first half after two good starts against Essendon and Geelong, but I think it was a little bit about our mindset going into the match. I think a few of our guys went in looking for a bit more uncontested ball instead of contested ball, and soon found out that wasn’t going to be the case.

After reviewing Brisbane ahead of this week’s game, there is no doubt that we will have to bring our A-game, because the Lions are a really well-disciplined and well-structured team.

In my opinion, they are one of the big improvers in the AFL. They are going really well and in the last four weeks, where they have won three of their last four games, their stats have been looking really good.

What we want to do is make sure that their better players like Simon Black and Daniel Rich are accounted for, so we just have to play good, accountable football.

The Brisbane Lions are second in percentage scores from rebound 50s, so that means there will be a lot of pressure on our forwards to play good defending games.

Our forwards and mids will need to be ready because the results have shown that when the Lions win the ball out of their defence they go all the way to the other end and score.

Every game Brisbane has won this year they have won the uncontested ball, so that will be a pretty big focus for us to make sure they don’t just get to play on their terms.

Looking at some individual performances within our team, Kieren Jack has been outstanding over the last month and Lewis Jetta has also been really good.

Lewis has continued his good form and the opposition teams are starting to put a little bit more time into him, so he’s learning to play with guys hanging off him a little bit more.

Both Kieren and Lewis in my mind have been the stand outs for us over the last month of football.
