Swans Reserves show their mettle
The Swans Reserves have made it two in a row with a win over the Tuggeranong Hawks at the SCG...
Jesse White was outstanding with 14 marks and an 11 goal haul. Amon Buchanan had 50 possessions and kicked five goals in the win. Jarred Moore, Kristin Thornton and Jake Orreal were also good, along with Matthew O’Dwyer and Dan Hannebery.
Both teams kicked six goals in the first term with the Swans taking a three point lead into the first break. Tuggeranong opened the scoring two minutes into the game, but Hannebery kicked his first from a free kick and two 50 metre penalties before the Hawks could kick their second.
At the 16-minute mark Buchanan goaled from another free kick and 50 metre penalty but four minutes later Tuggeranong were four points in front after kicking back-to-back goals.
The Swans replied with two goals in two minutes, one via White and the other from O’Keefe. By the end of the quarter, Thornton had goaled on the run from 25 metres and Buchanan had kicked his second while Tuggeranong also added another two to their score.
The Swans had an eight goal to six quarter in the second term with White kicking his second goal for the game in the first minute from a mark five metres from goal. After goals to Taylor Gilchrist, on the run, and another three to White the Swans were 16 points in front halfway through the term. Goals to Hannebery, Daniel O’Keefe and White’s sixth of the match had the Swans 15 points up at halftime.
White kicked another three goals in the third term while Buchanan kicked two. Thornton goaled on the run from 15 metres and Brendan Murphy kicked his first to extend the Swans’ lead to 42 points by the end of the quarter.
The last quarter was a blowout with the Swans Reserves keeping Tuggeranong to just one goal and adding another six to their score. At the six-minute mark, White marked and goaled, and Orreal followed it up with one on the run from the goal square a few minutes later. Buchanan and Murphy both goaled again, and Murphy’s third goal was the last of the game.
