Former Swan Amon Buchanan has announced his retirement, ending a career that has spanned 10 seasons, 134 senior games and a premiership with the Sydney Swans.

Buchanan, 29, was traded to the Lions at the end of 2009 from the Sydney Swans, where he was part of the 2005 flag-winning team.

He played 116 games for the Swans and also played in the 2006 Grand Final, which the Swans lost to West Coast by one point.

He will play out the season with the Lions reserves, who are in contention for the 2012 NEAFL premiership and could face the Sydney Swans reserves in the NEAFL Grand Final if both teams win their respective Conferences.
