Trent Dennis-Lane will make a surprise return to football this Sunday, when he lines up in the Swans Reserves season opener against Eastlake at Ainslie Oval.
Dennis-Lane suffered an ankle injury on the eve of the Swans senior team’s first match of 2011 against Melbourne at the MCG, and was ruled out of action for up four weeks.
As Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron told SwansTV earlier this week, Dennis-Lane has recovered much quicker than expected.
The dangerous small-forward trained solidly on Friday morning and will take his place for the Reserves on Sunday.
This week’s squad will also be bolstered with senior players Tadhg Kennelly, Jarred Moore and ruckman Mark Seaby.
Guided by new coach Henry Playfair, the Reserves have recorded handsome wins in each of their three trial matches leading into Sunday’s season opener, the most recent a 96-point win over the GWS Giants.
Throughout the NAB Cup and NAB Challenge matches, a number of reserves players from 2010 have gained valuable senior experience.
Dylan McNeil, Byron Sumner, Lewis Johnston and Dan Currie along with new recruit Luke Parker have all featured in the Swans senior team during the preseason.
