Mattner a chance for Eagles

Swans defender Martin Mattner is a chance to join his team mates on the plane to Perth this weekend ahead of the top-of-the-table clash against the West Coast Eagles.
Mattner was a late withdrawal from Saturday afternoon’s win over the Brisbane Lions following groin soreness from the previous round.
Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron said that Mattner should recover in time for Sunday’s match.
“(Mattner) is going well,” Cameron told SwansTV.
“He had a small groin strain after the previous game where he was subbed out.
“He was able to actually train last week, but it pulled up a bit sore so we deemed him unsuitable to get through the next game so we pulled him out.
“We’re hoping things will go well this week and he’ll be able to train this week and he’ll be on the plane to Perth.”
Swans reserves leading goal-kicker Mitch Morton is expected to return to the side next weekend after being ruled out of the team’s last two matches with a quad injury.
Cameron said Morton will use this weekend’s reserves bye to prepare himself for a return the following week.
“He had a small quad strain from a couple of weeks ago,” he said.
“He wouldn’t have been available this weekend but he should be returning to training and returning to play next week.”
Matt Spangher was also absent from the Swans reserves forward line in this weekend’s 19-point loss to the Brisbane Lions, following a hamstring concern suffered in the previous match.
Cameron said the Swans medical staff had taken precautionary measures with Spangher.
“Right at the end of the previous week’s game he got some hamstring tightness - again on the side that he’s had some problems with - so we took a cautious approach and didn’t put him out there (last) weekend,” he said.
“So we’ll put it together with the bye this weekend and get him back into it for next week.”
Cameron said Swans draftee Jordan Lockyer has also been experiencing a hamstring complaint.
“(Lockyer) is in a similar situation to Matt Spangher, he has got some ongoing hammy issues but he is up and running again and we’re just working on his fitness and his overall strength before we bring him in towards the end of this season,” he said.
“We want to avoid him having any more problems so we’re taking some time to make him fitter, stronger and faster.”
