ADAM GOODES says Karmichael Hunt has a good chance of succeeding in the AFL and the Swans’ star onballer has outlined his own wishlist of code switchers.

Rugby league star Hunt announced on Wednesday that he would be moving football codes to play with the new Gold Coast team.

Hunt, 22, has played for the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL since 2004 and represented Queensland and Australia. He is expected to join Gold Coast in May 2010.

Goodes believes Hunt will be a successful AFL player.

"For Karmichael, I hope he can progress and play a lot of games for the Gold Coast because it’ll get the interest of the rugby league supporters up," Goodes said on Thursday.

"I think it’s a big signing for Gold Coast and a big boost for Aussie Rules in Queensland.

"It’ll be a hard transition but he’s a great athlete. He’s got that background and he’s still quite young.

"And he’s got 18 months before he plays so he’ll get some experience. He’s a professional athlete so he’ll have that discipline to succeed."

Goodes has watched Hunt play live in the NRL and he liked what he saw of the New Zealand-born Brisbane Bronco.

"He’s got a pretty keen step and can tackle pretty hard so based just around that there could be some exciting times up there."

Goodes said that with two new teams coming into the AFL over the next few years, teams should be thinking laterally about where to find talented athletes.

Mike Pyke is one example. The Canadian Rugby Union player has made great strides this year as a ruckman for the Swans.

Goodes was keen to see the trend of other sportsmen playing Australia’s indigenous game continue.

"I’d love to invite Greg Inglis to come up and play for the Swannies. And Israel Folau to come play as well as a full forward," Goodes said.

Aside from those two NRL stars, Goodes was keen to cast an even wider net.

"My big signing I’d like to see is LeBron James come play for the Swans. But I don’t think we can afford him at the moment," he said with a smile.
