Despite heavy rain all week and torrential conditions on Friday night, it was fantastic to see just over 25,000 fans in the stands, cheering on the team to a great win.
It is not the first time this year fans have turned out in spite of the weather and I don’t imagine it will be the last.
Credit must also go to the SCG ground staff, who did a great job preparing the surface in a very challenging week.
Having the support of a big home crowd is just so important for the players.
In an interview after the match, our co-captain Kieren Jack described Swans fans as ‘the best in the business’, while many other players took to Twitter -see below - to thank the fans for their support. I can only echo their sentiments.
We have a number of big matches in Sydney over the next few months, starting with next week’s Derby against GWS. I look forward to seeing another big crowd filling the SCG, rain, hail or shine.
Go Swans.
Great to see all @sydneyswans turn up despite the weather, best in the business #AFLSwansBlues
