Gary Rohan is expected to train this week with a view of playing in Saturday night's round one opener against GWS.

Sydney Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron said Rohan has made improvement following an ankle injury in last weekend’s clash with the Gold Coast Suns.

“Gary Rohan sprained his ankle and he got subbed off in the first half,” Cameron told sydneyswans.com.au.

“He’s improving and he’s a good chance of training on Thursday.”

Ryan O’Keefe and Matt Spangher remain restricted ahead of round one, but Cameron said both players are making a good recovery from their respective injuries.

“Ryan O’Keefe had bone bruising from a training accident a couple of weeks ago,” he said.

“He’s improving and we’re hoping to start him running and playing very shortly.

“Matt Spangher had a hamstring injury a couple of months ago which he’s up and running from, but it was a really large strain so we’re taking things carefully in order for him to be able to attack the rest of the season."

Three young Swans players have also battled injury over the pre-season, including draft picks Alex Brown and Tom Mitchell as well as rookie Eugene Kruger.

“At the moment we’ve got three of the younger guys who have been out with longer terms injuries,” Cameron said.

“All of those guys are up and running and Kruger and Mitchell are training, so they aren’t far away, and Brown is not far behind them.

“Alex Brown had two hip arthroscopes right at the end of last season leading into the pre-season, so he didn’t start running until January.

“(Mitchell has) been up and running now for quite a few months so he’s coming to the end of his pre-season time now.”
