Sydney Swans fans will have to wait a little longer to see Robbie Fox back in action on the SCG, after he suffered a finger injury which has required surgery.

But in some positive news - Lance Franklin is close to a return to full training.

Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services Damian Raper has provided an injury update ahead of Sunday's pre-season match between the Sydney Swans and GWS.

The key takes outs:

Robbie Fox
Robbie unfortunately hurt his finger in Saturday’s practice match against GWS. He ruptured the tendon off his middle finger which unfortunately required him to have surgery. That means he will be in a splint for roughly six weeks and then returning to play after that. It's really unfortunate news for Robbie, but we are going to be able to work on his rehab and on his fitness and his strength at the same time, so we are hoping to have him back in six-to-eight weeks.

Jake Lloyd
Jake unfortunately sprained the back of his knee when kicking a ball off the wet surface against GWS. He is going to miss this weekend as we are taking a conservative approach. He will look to return to full training next week.

Lance Franklin
Lance is coming along well. He is in team training this week and continues to work on his individual program. He has a really big next two weeks coming up as he continues to progress towards a date where we might look at returning him to match play and full training.

Sam Naismith
Sam is coming along well and he is progressing through rehab skills and is integrating to some skills with the main group. He is at roughly eight months now since his operation. Sam continues to work on his ruck-based craft and he is going to continue to work into full training over the next month.
