Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley has thanked fans for their show of support during the Sydney Derby at the SCG on Saturday.
A total crowd of 33,541 were on hand to witness a thrilling Derby in which Swans spearhead Lance Franklin booted five goals, but ultimately saw the Giants prevail after a goal to Josh Kelly in the dying seconds of the game.
The crowd (pictured above, photo by Phil Hillyard) represents the Swans biggest home crowd for 2021, and the biggest sporting crowd for the year in Sydney, across any code.
Swans CEO Tom Harley said it was great to see fans flocking back to the SCG after the COVID-19 enforced lockouts.
“It is just fantastic to see and hear crowds back at the footy,” Harley said.
“We understand there have been some challenges and changes to ticketing procedures this season, but our fans are adapting incredibly well and embracing the opportunity to get back into the stands.
“Although we couldn’t get over the line, the atmosphere created by our members and fans throughout the game and in particular those dying moments was incredible,” he said.
Tickets for the Swans next home game against Geelong on Saturday night, May 1 will go on sale tomorrow, Tuesday April 20. All details can be found here.
It is also expected that fixture information for the Round 9 blockbuster against Collingwood at the SCG, along with the Round 10 clash with Fremantle in Perth will be confirmed in the coming days. Keep an eye on sydneyswans.com.au or check your inbox for all the updates.
