VFL Coach Jeremy Laidler reflects on his side's 14-point loss to the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday afternoon at Metricon Stadium.

"It was a very disappointing loss, I thought we got beaten over the whole game," he said.

"It was a credit to Gold Coast, they came with good intent, and their pressure around the contest was second-to-none. We have to get better at matching that and working hard both ways.

"The difference between this week and last week was there was an even weight of numbers in terms of players contributing to the game, but this week we left it to a small amount of players, so that was disappointing."

Despite the loss, Laidler said there were a handful of positives to take out of the performance as the team looks ahead to their Round 3 fixture against the Geelong Cats at Lakeside Oval on Saturday afternoon.

"We had patches of the game where I thought we did quite well - the start of the second quarter our ball movement and defensive patterns were good but it was just too much of a roller coaster and we were too inconsistent with both sides of the game."
