Sydney Swans forward Sam Reid is facing a race against the clock to prove his fitness ahead of Friday night’s clash against Hawthorn at the MCG.
Reid missed last weekend’s win over St Kilda after hurting his groin in Round 17 win against the Giants.
Head of Football Tom Harley said a decision on whether the key forward faced the Hawks would be made later in the week.
“We took the time out of last weekend to put Sam through some pretty aggressive rehab,” Harley told the HCF injury update.
“We will have our main training session on Wednesday and reassess before Friday night’s game so he will be a test and still in with a chance to play.”
Harry Cunningham is due to return from his foot injury but, with the NEAFL side having a bye, is unlikely to make his return to football until the NEAFL Swans' Round 19 match against Brisbane.
Harley said Cunningham had showed positive progress in recent weeks.
“It has been ten weeks which is a bit longer than we initially thought after making some positive steps in the early part of his rehab,” Harley said.
“Harry will be available for selection the following week and the team is obviously travelling well at the moment but in saying that he was playing some really good footy at the start of the year.”
“He is a very important part of our team.”
