Sydney Swans forward Lance Franklin won't play every remaining game this season despite nearing a rare milestone, coach John Longmire says.
Franklin's six-goal haul last weekend has raised the prospect of him becoming just the sixth VFL/AFL player to kick 1000 career goals.
The 34-year-old, who is contracted until the end of 2022, now has 963 goals in his glittering career, but the looming milestone is irrelevant to coach Longmire.
"I understand the interest in it, it would be a great achievement for him," Longmire told reporters on Tuesday.
"But it takes up probably zero per cent of my time during the week."
Franklin's latest six goals came in his third game back from a bone-bruising injury with the veteran showing his renowned agility and speed.
His performance saw him earn 8 votes from the coaches.
"It's great to see, he was really out there moving a lot more freely and really enjoying that aspect of footy," Longmire said.
"He has just been able to do a bit more training ... and get a few games under his belt.
"We don't expect him to play every game from here until the end of the year.
"But he needed a few games in succession to be able to get the momentum and get the rhythm going.
"Two weeks ago there was commentary that he was struggling a bit so it's very much week-to-week isn't it, it's about how he went on the weekend.
"That is what the outside commentary is generally about but internally we have a medium to longer term focus for him.
"And that is, you try and smooth out those bumps from week-to-week ... get some continuous training and playing under his belt.
"There might be fluctuations from week-to-week, like any player, with form.
"But in the end we want to build a pretty resilient and robust body with him and that is what the aim is - it doesn't mean it's bullet-proof but that is what we're working towards."
