The Sydney Swans have suffered a 38-point defeat to Hawthorn at the SCG tonight in their Round 13 clash.
Speaking after the loss, co-captain and defender Dane Rampe said the Hawks put in a comprehensive performance that saw the visiting side outplay the Swans at home.
“It’s hard to tell just yet, it’s still pretty fresh but that’s not the performance we want to put out today,” Rampe said after the game.
“That’s a pretty tough pill to swallow heading into the bye.
“I think [they had it over us] all over the ground. Credit to them, they ran themselves up and probably the most disappointing thing is we didn’t respond.
“They were harder for a lot longer, we showed a little bit in the third quarter, but other than that it was a pretty comprehensive performance from them.”
Rampe said it was the side’s lack of intensity that was most disappointing.
“The most disappointing thing was just our inability to respond and fight back,” Rampe said.
“That’s something we like to pride ourselves on and probably the most disappointing thing. They outhunted us and they had that intensity that we couldn’t match.”
The Swans have the bye followed by an away trip against Port Adelaide and Rampe said that the side will be focused on remaining confident heading into the second half of the season.
“I think we have shown we can match it with the top teams, and what’s disappointing and frustrating is that we seem to pick and choose the moment with who we get up for,” Rampe said.
“Its probably a little sign of immaturity as a team and something we will be focusing on.
“We will lick our wounds, come back, take time to move on but we have a big three weeks coming up.”
